The find… A second-hand store choc- o-bloc with treasures and surprises.
The crowd… Everyone will love exploring and discovering this fascinating store!
The inside word… Anyone who knows Unley will recognise the friendly life-sized Chef statue that greets customers on entry to McKay’s Mart.
The Chef is an icon on Unley Road and the second hand store, established in 1912, is one of the oldest businesses in the area.
The business has been in the Townsend family since the 1940s and is now run by brothers, Peter, Robert and Paul.
Co-owner, Peter Townsend said they owe a lot of their success to their loyal customers who keep coming back to find more treasures.
“We have a diverse range of people come here and we really appreciate our loyal customers,” he said.“I can’t imagine there would be too many second hand stores that have been around as long as us and we hope to be here for another 100 years!”
Being in the business for so long has given the brothers a wealth of knowledge ofall things second-hand and they are more than happy to help customers find what they are looking for.
The store sells almost everything, gorgeous antique pieces and furniture to knick-knacks and collectables. Search and you will find.
McKay’s Mart is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and on Sundays, 1pm to 5pm, with delivery available for all customers.
With so many treasures to unearth, McKay’s Mart is an exciting destination and one filled with gems waiting to be taken home and given new life today.
